Donate to ONA
The Online News Association is the premier institution serving the journalists, technicians, companies, organizations, students and academics exploring innovative ways to create and deliver news through digital technology. We are contributing to a vibrant new era of journalism by leading the conversation on digital media, providing cutting-edge training at global and local meet-ups, our state-of-the-art annual conference and traveling workshops, and by seeding and supporting the professional development of digital journalists. (Learn more about what we do.)
There are many ways you can help ONA continue to be a pioneering advocate for innovation and excellence in digital journalism:
Your donation to the General Fund bolsters journalism around the world; lends support for young journalists who are defining the new landscape; and provides much-needed digital media training for journalists, introducing them to the tools they need to be effective storytellers for their communities. By donating, you will be providing invaluable opportunities for today's journalists, whether it's making the transition to digital platforms, staying abreast of the latest technologies or devising new and creative ways to investigate and inform the public — just to name a few.
Legal Affairs: ONA is the only membership organization focused solely on digital media, making the work of our dedicated Legal Affairs Committee vitally important in this increasingly complex world of press freedoms, internet rights and privacy. The committee already has had direct impact on legislation protecting journalists, ranging from anti-SLAPP to the Shield Law.
ONA Local: Our diverse journalism community, represented in cities all over the world, makes connections, shares resources and showcases talent through our ONA Local groups. Our organizers -- volunteers, all -- host regular professional development and networking events for journalists and technology innovators, from Austin to Keyna.
News Ethics: How can a journalist robustly engage in social newsgathering while remaining loyal to the central principles of ethical journalism? That’s the focus of our News Ethics Committee, our newest working group comprised of journalists with common experiences across the industry focusing on the ethics and standards of social and digital newsgathering. This group is for the first time attempting to identify best practices in this important corner of digital journalism, and ultimately provide education and training resources to ONA members and journalism community.
MJ Bear Fellowship Fund: ONA has had the privilege of supporting the work of groundbreaking journalists, the MJ Bear Fellows. This fellowship is dedicated to nurturing under-30 journalists producing cutting-edge work in digital media by offering them sophisticated resources, one-on-one mentoring, networking and a global forum to talk about their work. (Check out more of our fellows' thoughts and work chronicled on their blogs.)
We hope you’ll donate today to make it possible for these fellowships to continue for promising young journalists!
